Pre & Post Procedure Care

At Esthetic Medspa Portland, we want you to feel confident and prepared before every appointment, and fully informed about what to expect once you leave. Below you'll find general guidelines for our most popular treatments, including common side effects like temporary redness, swelling, or sensitivity. Every treatment plan is customized to you, so your provider will always review specific instructions with you at your visit. If you have any questions before or after your appointment, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Injectables

Whether you're getting Botox, Dysport, or Jeuveau, a little preparation goes a long way.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 to 48 hours prior.

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E for 1 week unless prescribed by your doctor.

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin if possible.

After Your Appointment

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area.

  • Stay upright and avoid lying down for 4 hours.

  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot tubs for 24 hours.

Mild redness, small bumps at injection sites, or slight bruising are normal and typically resolve quickly.

Facial Fillers & Juvederm

Our facial fillers restore lost volume and smooth lines with minimal downtime, but a bit of swelling and bruising is common while you heal.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid dental work, vaccines, and illness for 2 weeks prior.

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E for 1 week unless prescribed.

  • Limit alcohol for 24 hours prior and hydrate well.

After Your Appointment

  • Avoid makeup on treated areas for 24 hours.

  • Don't massage or press on injection sites unless directed by your provider.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 72 hours.

  • Swelling, redness, and bruising are common and can last up to 2 weeks.

Please call us right away if you notice skin blanching, severe or worsening pain, spreading bruising, or vision changes.

Sculptra

Sculptra works gradually, stimulating your own collagen over time, so a little patience (and some gentle massaging at home) helps you get the most out of your results.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and blood-thinning supplements for 1 week unless prescribed.

  • Limit alcohol for 24 hours prior.

After Your Appointment

  • Gently massage the treated area as instructed by your provider (often several times a day for several days).

  • Expect temporary swelling, redness, and small bumps at injection sites.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

  • Results build gradually over several weeks as your body produces new collagen.

Our PRP treatments use your own plasma to rejuvenate skin or restore hair, with only mild, short-lived side effects.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid vaccines and illness for 2 weeks prior.

  • Limit alcohol for 24 to 48 hours before your visit.

  • Arrive with clean skin or a clean scalp, depending on the treatment area.

After Your Appointment

  • Redness and mild swelling in the treated area are normal for a few days.

  • Avoid sun exposure and wear SPF 30+ daily.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, sauna, and swimming for 24 to 48 hours.

  • For hair restoration, avoid washing your hair for the first 24 hours.

PRP (Skin Rejuvenation & Hair Restoration)

Facial Treatments (Facials, Dermaplaning & Peels)

From classic facials to dermaplaning and peels, our facial treatments are customized to your skin, and some redness or light peeling afterward is a normal part of the process.

Before Your Appointment

  • Discontinue retinoids, exfoliants, and other active ingredients 5 to 7 days prior.

  • Limit sun exposure and wear SPF daily in the weeks leading up to your visit.

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.

After Your Appointment

  • Redness, sensitivity, and mild peeling are common, especially after peels, and typically resolve within a few days.

  • Avoid picking or manually exfoliating any peeling skin.

  • Skip strenuous exercise the day of your treatment.

  • Wear SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun exposure while your skin heals.

  • Avoid active skincare ingredients (retinoids, acids, vitamin C) for about a week after your treatment.

Hydrodermabrasion (HydraFacial)

Our hydrodermabrasion treatments are gentle enough for most skin types, with little to no downtime.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid sun exposure and discontinue retinoids or exfoliants 48 hours prior.

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.

After Your Appointment

  • No downtime is typically needed, and skin may appear slightly flushed immediately afterward, which usually fades within a few hours.

  • Avoid harsh or active skincare products for 24 hours.

  • Wear SPF 30+ daily.

  • Makeup can typically be worn right away.

Microneedling

Microneedling stimulates your skin's natural collagen production, so a bit of sunburn-like redness in the days after is completely normal.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid sun exposure 1 week prior.

  • Discontinue retinoids, exfoliants, and acids 48 hours prior.

  • Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for 1 week unless prescribed.

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.

After Your Appointment

  • Redness similar to a mild sunburn is expected for 1 to 3 days.

  • Avoid sun, exercise, swimming, and strenuous activity for 48 hours.

  • Avoid active skincare products (retinol, acids, vitamin C) for 5 to 7 days.

  • Wear physical SPF 30+ daily.

  • Makeup can typically be applied after 48 hours using clean brushes.

Plasma Energy

With plasma energy, small scabs form at the treated points as part of the healing process, so following aftercare closely helps you get smooth, even results.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid sun exposure and wear SPF daily in the weeks leading up to treatment.

  • Discuss any skincare products or medications with your provider beforehand.

After Your Appointment

  • Small "carbon crust" scabs will form at treated points and typically last 7 to 10 days as part of the healing process.

  • Keep the treated area dry initially and avoid picking at scabs.

  • Avoid sun exposure while healing to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.

  • Some swelling and redness are expected, with downtime of about 1 week.

Drip Bar (IV Therapy)

Our Drip Bar infusions are quick and low-maintenance; most clients feel refreshed and can get right back to their day.

Before Your Appointment

  • Eat a light meal beforehand and arrive well hydrated.

  • Let us know about any relevant medications or health conditions prior to your infusion.

After Your Appointment

  • Most clients feel refreshed right away and can resume normal activities immediately.

  • Mild bruising at the injection site is possible and typically resolves within a few days.

  • Drink plenty of water following your session.
